DIY House Numbers for $16.67

What You Need:

Cardboard Numbers from Hobby Lobby ($2.47 x 3)
E600 Glue from Hobby Lobby ($3.99 x 1)
Aqua (or whatever color) Stones from Dollar Tree ($1 x 2)
Krylon Blue Ocean Breeze (or whatever) Spray Paint from Wal-Mart ($3.27 x 1)

Time:
30 minutes spray paint time
2 hour drying time
1 hour gluing stones time

Total: 3.5 hours + overnight dry time

I didn't notice any other kind but make sure your stones have one flat side. I also think it's important to choose the same color of spray paint and stones to help the color stand out. But the Dollar Tree only has so many colors of stones and of course you can go for any effect that you want. The stones will reflect whatever color is under them.

My dad spray painted two coats and let dry. They looked so nice and shiny- almost like they were still wet.

I arranged all the stones just how I wanted them before I ever touched the glue. Once I started gluing, I could push them around and still move them where I wanted. But after about 10-12 minutes when the glue was fairly dry, if I moved the stones too much, it ripped the painted cardboard off. Translation: ugly. So don't do it. The glue started to get stringy and sometimes come out faster than I was ready for. Overall it took me about an hour to glue all the stones on for three numbers and wasn't too bad.

The Dollar Tree sells two sizes of stones. I went with the smaller size so that I could create double rows and fully cover my numbers.

Here's an idea of what it would look like with the larger stones and no paint:

Translation: ugly. So don't do it. Although it would be less work.

Here's the finished product. Notice each one has a blank space with no stone. That's where my dad will drill a wood screw into it and attach it to the siding. Then I can easily glue the stone on top to help hide the screw. But I just realized I could also spray paint the head of the screw! Yay.

I plan on hanging them vertically because horizontally they remind me of a football jersey. Translation: ugly. So...you know the rest.

They will look fantastic next to my teal front door and aqua wreath. Pictures to come!

$2 Bathroom Storage

Similar to my $2 soap stand, this is a $2 way to store bathroom essentials- which for me is cotton balls, q-tips, and cotton pads.

Once again starring my $1 glass candlestick and $1 glass...other thing, the Dollar Tree has come to my rescue.

I plan to glue these together and store on my bathroom sink.

$2 Kitchen Soap Stand

I first saw this idea on Pinterest.

Natalme

My mom tried it with a decorative plate and a candlestick she spray painted to match.

I went even cheaper and used a $1 glass candlestick and $1 silver plate from the Dollar Tree.

I haven't actually glued them together because I don't actually have a house yet and they are easier to store flat. But with a little E600 glue, look how cute it will be:

The end.

Dressing Room Paint Swatches

I went to Lowe's today to look at paint swatches for the dressing room and that room only. (I have colors picked out already for everything else!)

I found my sky blue almost the second I started looking: It's Vaspar brand and it's called Surfer Waves, which makes me love it even more!

It's lighter in person but the picture I took of it looks so pale and lame that it doesn't even look like a shade. I hate colors like that.

Anyway, I was conveniently wearing a fuchsia shirt that perfectly matched my fuchsia curtains. So I walked around Lowe's holding paint swatches up to my shirt- better than pulling my curtains out of my purse I guess. =)

Here's the color I liked best: Mom's Lipstick

I'm so mad because this picture looks completely purple and not fuchsia at all.

Here are the pictures I took:

It's a pretty close match. Plus the fuchsia shade will only be used for accents so it won't matter if there is a slight difference.

And I just found a link on DIY Chalk Paint which is perfect for painting furniture.

Yay!

Sheer Fuschia

One room that I've really had the most trouble envisioning is what I like to call my dressing room.

My house will have four bedrooms. With no children or husband, I really only need one. So instead of turning one into an office, I've decided I'd rather have a dressing room- basically a walk-in closet made out of a bedroom.

I've had soooo many ideas.

Chevron walls? Striped walls? Two walls in two different colors?

Gray and yellow? Teal and pink? Aqua and brown?

I've finally decided on fuchsia and sky blue (which will probably become more of an aqua).

Here are the two pictures I'm using for inspiration:

Better Homes and Gardens
This one caught my eye months and months ago- I just can't get it out of my head! In general I am a lover of 'cool' colors so this really appeals to me.

I've decided to paint three walls a sky blue color and also have fuchsia accents in the room. I'm really thinking about painting the inside of the closet fuchsia for a surprise pop of color as well.

The fourth wall is inspired by the picture below.

myoldcountryhouse
Although I plan on doing a chevron pattern instead of stripes (hmm, blue and white chevron pattern seems so....familiar), there is something about these colors together that makes me feel peaceful. I want to walk into each room of my house and smile every time.

So the fourth wall will be the sky blue and white in a chevron pattern- since I hope to have white trim in the entire house, I think it will have a nice effect.

For my first dressing room purchase, I bough these sheer fuchsia curtain panels with grommets from Moshell's.

I got them for $5.99 each which you just can't beat. I read a lot of bad reviews about this company- that it was a scam, that they sent all wrong products, that they gave fake tracking numbers, etc. But for me, I bought two curtain panels for less than $20 and received the correct items in five days. Satisfied.

The curtains are my starting point and I'll start to plan around that.

Next up, I'll be looking at paint swatches.
